At Hive3D Builders, we are pioneers in transforming the construction industry through innovative 3D printing technology. We use both a lightweight gantry system and a mobile robotic arm system to 3d print our homes. Both systems have been engineered to use our proprietary printing mortars and building systems. Our printers are specifically designed to be lightweight, portable, and require minimal infrastructure to set up and print so we can fulfill the promise of building homes at significant cost savings. We use a combination of off the shelf and custom software. Because we use multiple printing platforms, we can match the best system to any project.
We think that the key to cost savings in 3d printed houses is printing with low cost and locally available materials. We have developed a proprietary cement based mortar that uses local aggregates, off the shelf portland cement, and a mix of low cost commercially available additives. In our upcoming project, we are partnering with a new supplier for a low cost geopolymer cement replacement that is carbon neutral and significantly stronger that portland cement. We think it’s going to be a real game changer!
3d printing walls is only one piece of the puzzle in our mission to revolutionize affordable housing. We typically serve as the general contractor on all our builds and relentlessly value engineer every aspect of the home. We have architecture and most trades in-house to build quickly and efficiently. We have developed custom solutions for all aspects of 3d printing a house such as our proprietary foamcrete structural insulation, custom built steel reinforcement, and custom column and lintel designs
Hive is currently printing nine 1700-1900 Sq. Ft homes in Marfa, Texas. These homes will be sold at a significant discount to other new construction in the area to address the area’s shortage of quality housing at a reasonable price.
